Winter Seasonals

Aside from the ski bum crowd, there aren't many who consider January to be the finest month in the Pacific Northwest. The days are short and the rains are long. We keep ourselves afloat with coffee, light therapy boxes, bookstores and dreams of Hawaiian vacations. But the long evenings are also a perfect time to gather with friends for meals or to binge-watch that show everyone is talking about. When you don’t feel like cooking, we’ve got a couple of seasonal pizzas and a creative gelato that riffs on a Southern classic to brighten your evenings.

Eating abundant rosemary has been cited as one potential factor contributing to the long life of people in Acciaroli, a small city in southern Italy. For us, that’s just one more reason to add it to our favorite foods. Our Rosemary Potato Primo features potatoes roasted with olive oil and rosemary, our mildly spicy and sweet marinated chicken, red onions, parsley, mozzarella and kasseri cheese over an olive oil base seasoned with red pepper flakes.

Our other seasonal special is Pizza Bianca (white pizza), which exemplifies Italy’s simple and elegant cuisine. Without the bold, acidic base of tomato sauce, the nuance and complexity of toppings take prominence, especially the crust. Our pizza pros toss the dough and top it with five cheeses: Grana Padano, ricotta, fresh mozzarella, provolone, and mozzarella. The result is a firm and flavorful crust with that proper mouth-arresting chew, the perfect vehicle for our exquisite blend of Italian-style cheeses.

This leads us to gelato! Ever heard of Red Velvet gelato? That’s right, Maria Coassin, Gelatiamo’s flavor magician, has spun another American classic into an unforgettable gelato. Her Red Velvet gelato has a base of cream cheese and mascarpone with a hint of Madagascar vanilla. Bits of red velvet cake speck the silky gelato. If you like this classic cake, you’ll love this creative gelato.

Our special seasonals are available through mid-January, when the sun will already be setting 28 minutes later than it did on New Year’s Day.
