Pour Me Wine - Washington Wines

When we decided to up our delivery game by adding beer and wine we had tough decisions to make about what to carry. Wine was the most difficult of all. Ever agonized over a five-page-long wine list trying to choose something special that won’t set you back a full paycheck? Fortunately, Washington State is home to many great moderately-priced wines. So we swirled and sipped. Many were decent, some good, but nothing great. Then a friend tipped us off that one of our favorite Washington State winemakers, àMaurice Cellars, had an under-the-radar house wine called Pour Me. What a discovery it was! To our palate, Pour Me, both the red and white, are the best bottles of Washington wine in the $20 range.

àMaurice Cellars is a small, family-owned and operated winery located just east of Walla Walla in the Blue Mountain foothills. The Schafer family started the winery in 2004. Wine & Spirits magazine has cited them as one of the Top 100 Wineries of the World. The winemaker, Anna Schafer, specializes in Bordeaux-style blends. Unlike some of the big, oaky, juicy wines that come out of Walla Walla, those from àMaurice Cellars let the fruit talk first and use the oak to frame it. Their bottles run in the $35 to $80 range and are a good value at that price. Pour Me is their more affordable table wine. It’s fruit-forward without being jammy or overwhelmingly oaky.

Bryan Hill, sales manager for àMaurice Cellars, says that after barrel fermentation, which takes five to six months, they taste all the barrels and begin the complex process of blending. “Inevitably, you wind up with a few barrels that just don’t quite fit with the harmonious blend you want to create,” Bryan says. “But it’s still really great juice.”

That lightly-oaked premium juice becomes the backbone for their table wine. Anna then purchases additional barrels from other well-respected wineries in the area and creates a blend in the àMaurice style. “It’s our table wine,” Bryan says. “You can think about it almost as an introduction to our wines. If you like it, you should try our Estate wines.”

We’re proud to offer this distinctive wine from a local artisanal winemaker who shares many of the same values we do.

Pour Me Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The bright red wine is rich with aromas of dark red cherries, cedar resin and black currants. It stands up well to our tangy tomato sauce.

Pour Me White is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Viognier. It’s clear and crisp with notes of green apple, passion fruit and white peach. It’s intensely aromatic and holds its own with flavorful food.
