Figs, Marionberries and Pizza

Prosciutto Fig Primo
Prosciutto Fig Primo

As the long, beautiful summer tapers off and we slide into fall, hoping for a few more warm weekends, we’re still fortunate to have access to late summer harvest gems like luscious late-season figs, which are bountiful right now. Technically, figs are not a fruit—they’re a flower that blooms internally. Peel back the skin of the plump, ripe pear-shaped pod, and you’ll see the many tiny flowers nestled inside. This unusual structure gives figs their unique, honeyed sweetness and delicate, slightly chewy texture, making them a true seasonal delight.

With a bumper crop of plump, fresh figs, it’s the ideal time for our Prosciutto Fig Primo. The decadence of fresh figs paired with salty, silky prosciutto makes this quintessentially Italian combination one for the ages. Like the golden ratio in classical Roman design, the balance of salty and sweet, fruity and meaty, is divine. We layer farm-fresh figs and premium prosciutto over creamy fresh mozzarella on a roasted garlic oil base, finishing it off with fresh basil.

Our food team has been busy perfecting this deeply flavorful seasonal pizza — our Miso Broccoli. Miso butter, with its rich blend of butter and tangy fermented miso, delivers an unmistakable umami taste. The pizza features roasted broccoli seasoned with miso butter, lime juice and spicy red pepper flakes, alongside shiitake mushrooms and mozzarella on a roasted garlic oil base. Fresh from the oven, it's finished with a sprinkle of sliced green onions.

And for dessert, our seasonal gelato is Marionberry Vanilla Cream Gelato. In August and early September, along the sides of roads and fields, marionberries are ripe for the picking throughout the Pacific Northwest. Gelatiamo purchases baskets of handpicked, juicy berries from the Willamette Valley in Oregon, known for their bright, complex flavor. Gelatiamo masterfully swirls these juicy berries into a custardy gelato rich with vanilla bean. The result is a velvety blend of sweet cream and tart, flavorful berries, creating an irresistible treat.
