Sports are a valuable part of education, whether rooting for a favorite school team or as an athlete. From track & field to gymnastics, rowing, soccer, and basketball, most student-athletes put hundreds of hours into training and competing with little to no hope of going pro. And many of us root for them as vigorously as we root for our favorite professional teams. There is something beautiful about collegiate athletics. The athletes walk the hallways and sweat the same mid-terms as the other students. We admire their competitive drive and their love of the game.

Seattle University, located in the heart of the city, is one of the top universities in the West and an essential part of Seattle’s economic and intellectual life. Its athletic programs attract world-class student-athletes to compete in 20 intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division I level. Recent successes on field, court, and pool have given us much to cheer about. Last year, the men’s basketball team earned its first regular season WAC title. This year’s women’s soccer team finished second in the conference. Last year, The Seattle Sounders selected men’s soccer player Hal Uderitz in the MLS SuperDraft, the seventh player drafted in the previous five years out of Seattle University. We also love watching the Sounders’ Alex Roldan, who we came to know when he starred for Seattle University.
