Obliteride: Cycling Toward a Cure

You may have noticed those bright orange cards gracing the tops of your pizza boxes this summer. This weekend, August 9 – 11, more than 600 cyclists will take to the streets in solidarity for one great cause: finding a cure for cancer. And we are proud to get behind them. Obliteride is a bike ride event and fundraising effort with 100 percent of every dollar raised going toward cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every year more than 12 million people learn they have cancer, over 7 million lives are taken by the disease, and so many more friends and family members are affected. By raising awareness and research funding, Obliteride hopes to rally the community around this fight and find a cure faster.

The Pagliacci 50-Mile Route features some of Seattle’s best scenery and is perfect for riders of all levels looking for a great workout while taking part in an incredible movement. For those who want to help but aren’t up for a spin around town, Obliteride is still looking for volunteers.

“We would love to see people get involved by volunteering or lining the streets with signs honoring loved ones or friends who have battled cancer or are in the fight today," Obliteride’s executive director Amy Lavin said in an official update. "Simply come to the end of your driveway and cheer on the riders. We’d love to see everyone out there!”
